My week-long 'staycation' is over today I guess. I am well rested. And I did virtually nothing for this week. I did a little bit of housework; a little grocery shopping; but mostly I just stayed cloistered in my nice air-conditioned home and slept and read. I played the Sims 3 a bit. I played with my wii for a bit but mostly the life of the bum was the life for me. Funny how 31 days of 100+ degree weather makes you not want to go out much to do anything.

But I did do a wee bit of writing yesterday. I wrote a quirky Bleach fluff piece. That I'll post in the cut so you don't have to go to my website to read it.

Man I really have been living the offline life of late. I'm usually way too tired from work to even want to look at a computer. So I've been living the low-tech life of reading books (non-electronically & electronically).

Hey did you know that Google Mail, Docs & Calendar are no longer beta? Did you ever think that would happen. Mind you the reason they took it out of beta was they couldn't attract business customers to use their apps because they were afraid of the "b" word.

Hey I discovered last night that the Sci-Fi network is running Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the 2nd series. I think it started last Monday, so I missed the first 2 episodes but that's okay. I've seen them all anyway.

The streets were practically empty getting to work. It's mighty quiet around here also.

When Independence Day was first celebrated. It's kind of an interesting read. Who knew according to John Adams we are two days off of when we really should be celebrating?

So how many of you have upgraded your Firefox to 3.5? How many of you have started to find websites that won't load correctly? *raises hand* If you encounter such an anomaly like for instance on my browser the CNN Video page (http://www.cnn.com/video) won't load anything but blank frames. What can you do? If you are sitting on that page and nothing is working the way it should just go to your menu and go to HELP->Report Broken Website... It will pull up a window with the link embedded and you explain how it's not working and click Send.

Stop dying already. Yesterday Karl Malden (who was 97 which is a nice long life). Today it's Mollie Sugden which many Americans will know from the Are You Being Served? series that PBS stations everywhere used to air. Whatever will happen to Mrs. Slocombe's pussy? She also had a nice long life at 86.

I've been working like a dog on upgrade stuff on folks computers at work to the point that when I get home the last thing I want to look at is a computer. So I have been avoiding them... So I turn on the tv and try to avoid Michael Jackson news (good luck with that, huh). So I read instead, only to slip into lovely naps around my Sony reader, good thing it turns itself off if you haven't turned a page in hours.

And we don't get the 4th of July off because it falls on a Saturday. I'm guessing a good chunk of the building will be gone tomorrow. I will try and maybe take the afternoon off. We'll see.

What's going on? People are dropping like flies and they aren't even in our 107 degree heat. Farewell Billy Mays.

rzyna called it. She said MJ's demise would bump Farrah Fawcett from the headlines. And it did. Last night was practically all Michael Jackson TV (although ABC did air their Farrah special a day earlier, they also managed to piece together an hour long Michael special also). I also remember reading online last night that the media was forced not only to scramble to weigh which was the "bigger" news story but to piece together retrospects and the like. I turned off the tv rather early and when looking at the Wednesday episodes of The Daily Show and the Colbert Report so I could get amused by the Governor Sandford scandal. He may be the only relieved person that he's getting a reprieve from the media.

Keith Olbermann is covering Michael Jackson right now. Don't get me wrong. I loved MJ especially when I was a kid, but Keith Olbermann?

EDIT: What was even weirder is this post had the date of July 2nd? What the f... on all my journals no less. How the heck did that happen?

Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett... could this be the third? That would be a weird combo but yet... fitting as they are all iconic folks.

Today was 105 degrees... it's 8:30 p.m. and the current temperature is 100. Heat like this just makes me want to go hermit-like.

But I'll survive... grumpily but survival nonetheless.

I had left work early on Tuesday because a package was going to be delivered by Fed Ex that day. I got home at 3:15 and waited. And waited. And waited. I checked my email and the Fed Ex tracking still said leaving Round Rock for delivery. Round Rock isn't all that far from where I live. Suddenly I get an email saying Your package was delivered at 3:30 p.m. No Signature necessary. I open my door at 4:00 (because that was when they SENT the notice... um... guys you need to work on your timing) and ... No Package. I looked around there was no package anywhere. Then I had the sick feeling of, 'dammit had I given my old address?' because that was what the UPS debacle of 2008 was about.

I call Fed Ex and get stuck in automated menu hell until I kept repeating, "I want to speak to a human" Repeatedly until a human was put on the phone.

"Um according to your tracking site you delivered a package to my house at 3:30. I've been here since 3:15 there is no package. There was no knock on the door or even the doorbell. Heck I didn't even see or hear the truck in my neighborhood."

"Well it says here we delivered it."

"WHERE?"

He listed my address correctly.

"Well it isn't here."

"Okay we'll contact the driver. If you don't have your package in 3 days call back and we'll start a claim on it. I just need your contact number."

I give him the number.

"Thank you ... have a nice day," he said.

"Um... yeah right."

I contacted the company I got the item from to give them a heads up on FedEx delivering my package to God knows who. They said if it's really gone they will attempt to send me another one. But check with my neighbors.

My neighborhood is fairly friendly, if someone in my neighborhood had my package they would have brought it over. (Not like my old neighborhood where everyone except the people is the 2nd apartment were friendly. I still say those folks stole a dvd player my brother in law had sent. I really got suspicious when we would sometimes get their mail by accident and one letter was from the Parole office).

When I got home yesterday, my package had miraculously appeared. Yay Fed Ex! You win over UPS who decided to declare my package "lost" when they knew they delivered it to the wrong person who had the same name as I. I had to hunt this woman down and pick up my package from her. I told her UPS was suppose to contact her and she said they never did.

I really kind of want this TomTom GPS. I like my Garmin just fine but this would be fun.

100+ degrees are here again. (They need to go away really). I don't know what's worse that fact that it's freaking hot or the fact the the mold counts have been high enough to make me a walking zombie for days on end.

Okay, thanks to Mod the Sims I've lost the mosaic blocking. Thanks to rzyna and suzie_b I've got the cheats working and the editing Neighborhoods. They don't make it easy to do the neighborhood thing AT ALL you have to know where to look for it and in Sims-past you only looked for the button on the control screen. Now you have to literally go to the Options ... and look for Edit this Town. (Oh yeah that's WAY easier... not).

I moved Kyoya into Tamaki's house in Riverview (the free neigborhood you can download when you register the game. [I still have a Kyoya in the other neighborhood of Sunset Valley]). They get along just fine. Kyouya can't cook and started a fire by leaving food on the stove when he went to work. Fortunately Tamaki who was still asleep woke up and put the fire out. Kyouya has made a friend who also has an evil personality, they plot out masterplans while laughing maniacally. Tamaki is trying to get a bit of a commitment from Don Lothario but all he gets is woohoo.

Can I say I'm a little disappointed that there are no little movies for when folks do something the first time? For that first woohoo I was expecting the mini-movie with the cheesy porn music but I got nothing. And I couldn't see an option for it either. Ah well...

A lot of times I just left the game running while getting a snack or taking a shower. They did fine on their own... especially if you have their free wills working. Before quitting I decided to give Kyouya in Sunset Valley some roommates. Thus I created the Hitchiin twins (Hikaru & Kaoru). I used the motherlode money cheat to move Kyouya out of his dumpy 2 bd house to a 3bd 1.5 Bath snazzy house with a loft and a bridge and 2 car garage.

I'll get more conscientious about taking pictures, although I notice the game launcher wants to take my photos and upload them to my sims account. I've never uploaded pictures there and I won't start now.

I'm liking the game a little bit more as I play it... I guess I should be a good soul and go through the tutorial before whining about things not working... but dammit isn't part of gameplay muddling through as you play?

Yay for weekends... I was up way too late last night playing.

What a bad day for some performers. Everyone is talking about David Carradine passing away, but it was also on my friend's list that I found out that one of my favorite lady of Blues, Koko Taylor passed away. She was 80 years old and as far as I know she was still a touring performer. She had been to Austin a few times over the years. I meant to go see her and now that doesn't get to happen.

Her biggest hit was my least favorite song, Wang Dang Doodle [It's on every single solitary Koko Taylor cd, I kid you not]. But my favorite along with You can Have My Husband was the song, I'm a Woman. Heck I even used it in a songfic back in 2000.

Where to begin? Okay I got home, and the EA Downloader had downloaded my electronic version of The Sims 3 game. The downloader then had me click INSTALL to install the game. This was wonderful but I'm still going to have to find where the installer file to Sims3 is so I can burn a back up of it. I suspect if I pull up the EA downloader and look in my account that file will still be there, but paranoia is a bitch sometimes.
